Case Study

This project, a tear-down of an existing home set on a very deep and narrow creekfront lot with a drastic grade change, presented a number of challenges that required some creativity to overcome. A very personal project for our client, much of the main floor was actually designed to accommodate a family heirloom – a massive built-in set of cabinetry which North Fork Woodworks removed piece by piece and reassembled in painstaking detail in the living room of their new home.

Designed for privacy and to maximize the water-views despite the thin lot size, this 4500+sq ft home features integrated accordion doors across the entire creek-facing side, which open to allow an almost seamless flow to the exterior. In addition, the home makes use of many integrated angles designed to create a sense of airy openness despite its somewhat constrained dimensions. Extensive millwork both in and out include custom-made steel boxes faced with millwork designed to allow one to throw firewood into the back without fear of damage.

For the sake of owner privacy, the lower floor features complete mechanical and utility rooms designed to allow for full access by service providers while remaining separable from the upstairs living areas. In addition, this area also accommodates a hose-down-capable sailing/boating room with separate showers to maximize enjoyment of the easily accessible creeks and bays.
